Bertha M. Steinmetz, GW #24

Bertha was born in 1877 in Bethlehem, Pa to the Reverend Wilson Steinmetz and his wife, Mary Jane, nee Gruber.  Bertha’s father was a pastor in the Mennonite Brethren in Christ church which spawned the Gospel Worker Society. In 1880, the Steinmetz family lived in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County, Pa where Wilson was a farmer at that time.   I can’t find Bertha in the 1900 census but she must have joined the Gospel Workers around that time to have the number 24.  Sadly, Bertha’s missionary career was cut short by death.  She died in September 1901 in Williamsport and is buried in Wildwood Cemetery of that place.  Her father attended the funeral.
