Carrie L. Doepel, GW #13
Caroline L. Doepel was born 28 June 1873 to Charles and Amelia (Heptner) Doepel in Newark, New Jersey. Carrie’s father was a first generation American; his parents were from Germany. Carrie’s mother was born in Germany and came to America when she was a child. Carrie was licensed in 1896; in 1900 the family was living in Norristown. Perhaps they were living there in 1896 where S B Knerr was pastor of the MBC there. In 1897 Carrie was recommended for admission to the Annual Conference of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ of Pennsylvania. Carrie did not stay in the Gospel Worker Society. When Carrie was 30 years old, she married John Jeffries. In 1910 they were living in Mt. Carmel where John worked as a carpenter in the coal mines. In 1920, Carrie is living with her parents and sister in Orwigsburg, Pa while her husband is in Tamaqua working in a grocery store. They are together in 1930, living in Pottsville, where John is working as an engineer in a packing house. Carrie’s husband died in 1934; his obituary mentions that he was a faithful member of the Methodist Church. In 1940, Carrie is living with her widowed sister in Pottsville. Neither one of them had children. They had two other siblings that died as children; they were the end of the line in their family. Carrie died on 11 March 1961 in the Schuylkill County Institutional District Hospital. Her body was removed to the State Anatomical Board in Philadelphia.
