Clara C. Haupt, GW #39
Clara Celeste Haupt was born on 15 January 1880 in Upper Nazareth Township, Northampton County, Pa. to Josiah G. and Sophia Haupt. She was baptized three months later on 22 April 1880 at Dryland Reformed Church in Hecktown of the same county. By 1900 Clara was a Gospel Worker, serving in Williamsport, Pa. Ten years later she is not in Cleveland with most of the other Gospel Workers; instead, she is in Altoona, Blair County, Pa. with Annie Holtzapple, Lillian Sipe, and Anna Westley. Apparently, the celibate life was not for Clara; on 29 August 1914 she married the Reverend Lewis Palmer Sanford, D.D.S. In 1915 they moved to Montana where they had a rural mission work for homesteaders on the North prairie, between Libby and Kalispell. In 1920 they are listed in Los Angeles, Ca. in the federal census. In 1930 and 1940 they are in Montana. It appears that they did not have any children. Clara died on 8 November 1976, nine years after her husband. They are buried in Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton, Montana.
