Clara Jane Hess, GW #63
Clara was born on 22 September 1876 in the Williamsport, Pa. area, to Thomas and Elmira (Marshall) Hess. In 1894, when Clara was 18 years old her father died. In the 1900 we find Clara and her widowed mother living in Williamsport with Clara’s widowed older brother and his daughters. At some point in the next few years Clara entered the Gospel Worker Society. In 1910 she is already in Cleveland living in the Gospel Worker Society compound. She is listed with the Gospel Workers in Cleveland for the 1920, 1930, and 1940 census. From the 1940 census we learn that she had seven years of formal education. Clara stayed with the Gospel Worker Society and died on 30 July 1945. She is buried in the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery with other Gospel Workers.
