Clara M. Jones, GW #131
Clara was born on 25 August 1896 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to Harry F. and Mary E. (Frank) Jones. Clara’s growing up years were with her family in Bethlehem, but her whereabouts for the 1920 and the 1930 census are unknown. In 1940 she is found in the census in Cleveland, Ohio, living with another former Gospel Worker, Grace Spinney. From that census it is learned that Clara had four years of high school, worked 52 weeks at an income of $0 (zero) but she has other income, and her occupation is Evangelist, church. In 1950 she is still living with Grace Spinney in Cleveland but at another address. Their occupations are listed as “Minister, Ministery [sic] Church.” Perhaps the census taker intended to write “Missionary church.” Clara died on 30 October 1951 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Perhaps she was visiting her sister Ruth who was also a former Gospel Worker. Clara’s obituary in the Allentown “Morning Call” states she was the founder and director of a mission in Cleveland. She is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Bethlehem where her parents are buried.
