Cora Stirk, GW #60
Cora was born on 31 May of 1881 to Welden and Anna (Trumbauer) Stirk. In the 1900 census, Cora is a teenager in her parents’ home in Bethlehem, Pa. and is working as a winder in a silk mill. In 1910 Cora is in Cleveland, Ohio, living and working with the Gospel Workers as a missionary. In the 1920 census, Cora is in Allentown, Pa, a “roomer” in the home of Elmer and Emma Nuss. Also in the house is fellow Gospel Worker Mary Hassler, sister-in-law to Elmer. Cora’s occupation is press feeder in the printing industry. In 1930, Cora and Mary still live together in Allentown, though at a different address. They continue as press feeders in the printing industry. In 1940, Cora and Mary still live in Allentown. Cora is listed as Head of house and Mary is listed as her partner. Cora no longer works in the printing industry; she works as a packer for a drug manufacturer. Cora died in December of 1959 in Wilmington, Delaware. She is buried in West End Cemetery, Allentown, next to Mary Hassler.
