Emma B. Eicherly, GW #70
Emma was born 22 March 1882 to John and Martha (Beattie) Eicherly in York, Pa. By 1900 Emma’s parents were divorced and Emma was living with her mother, two brothers, and a sister. In 1905 Emma began attending the Gospel Worker Society mission on George Street in York, Pa. At that time she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. According to the York city directory, Emma was working in a textile factory, first as a looper then as a knitter. In 1907 she left factory work to join the Gospel Worker Society. She did some preaching, some singing, guitar playing, and door-to-door selling the Gospel Herald. She served in various places in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. Some of her years of service were in reading and selecting material for some of the publications of the Union Gospel Press. In her later years, she was a seamstress, making uniforms for the Gospel Workers. This work took her to the missions at Williamsport, Pittsburgh, Altoona, Pa. and Youngstown and Cleveland, Ohio. Emma’s last years of active service were spent as matron of a small country place for the workers that served as a refreshing retreat. Emma died in Cleveland on 29 October 1950 after a long lingering illness. She is buried in Brooklyn Heights with other Gospel Workers.
