Flora L. Weiss, GW #71
Flora was born on 17 April 1887 to Samuel and Rebecca (Lewis) Weiss of Milford Township, Bucks County, Pa. Her older sister, Rebecca, joined the Gospel Worker Society in 1899. By 1910 Flora had followed in her sister’s footsteps by joining the Gospel Worker Society; however, Flora did not stay with the society. Flora’s whereabouts for the 1920 and 1930 census are unknown, but when her brother Lewis died in 1929, Flora is listed as Mrs Flora Morley of Detroit as one of his survivors. Apparently, Flora married a man with the last name of Morley, but she was either widowed or divorced by this time. Other sisters listed in the obituary are either with their own given name and surname if they were widowed or divorced or Mrs. (husband’s name) if their husband was still living. By 1940 Flora had married August Small who was 15 years her senior. August was born in Michigan, so perhaps she met him while living there. In 1940 they were living in Detroit, MI. Flora reports that she had three years of high school. At some point they moved to Quakertown where so many of Flora’s family lived. Flora died on 16 October 1955 and is buried in the Union Cemetery in Quakertown. Her husband died in 1961 and is buried next to her. According to their obituaries, no children survived them.
