Harriet Carman Gaerthe, GW #198

Harriet was born on 25 June 1908 in Rockledge, Montgomery County, Pa to William J and Nellie (Carman) Gaerthe.  Harriet had a twin brother but he had passed away two weeks after they were born.  In 1920, the family was living in Upper Gwynedd Township, near Lansdale.  Sadly, Harriet’s mother passed away in 1923, leaving her husband with several teenagers.  In 1930 Harriet was boarding in Lansdale with an older couple; she was working as an assembler in a pottery company.  Harriet became acquainted with the Gospel Worker Society when two Gospel Workers were visiting relatives in her area.  Harriet joined the Gospel Workers in 1939.  In the 1940 census, Harriet reported that she had seven years of school.  She continued with the Gospel Workers up to 1950.  After that I don’t know her whereabouts except that she did not stay with the Gospel Workers.  She died in Lansdale on 8 November 1992 and is buried in Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Ambler, Pa. where some of her siblings are buried.
