Hortanza J. Bedford, GW#89
Bedford, Hortanza J. GW #89 Hortanza, or sometimes Hortansia or Tanzy, was born in June of 1848, the daughter of Richard and Sarah Bedford of Elkland Township, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. Richard was born in England and took up farming in his new country. In 1880, the children are grown and Hortanza is the only child still living at home which was in Upper Fairfield Township, Lycoming County, Pa. By 1900 both Richard and Sarah had passed away. Most of Hortanza’s siblings had moved to Williamsport, Pa., including her brother Frank with whom she lived. Living in Williamsport was probably Hortanza’s introduction to the Gospel Workers. In 1910, 1920, and 1930 she is listed with the Gospel Workers in Cleveland, Ohio. Hortanza died in 1937 and is buried in the Hawthorne section of the Brooklyn Heights cemetery along with other Gospel Workers.
