Ida Margaret Stoneback, GW #184
Ida was born on 4 June 1906 in Quakertown to Edwin K. and Lucy (Sweitzer) Stoneback. Even though her mother was only 19 years old, Ida was the third child born in the family. In the 1910 census we find the family scattered. Edwin was working as a carpenter in Salt Lake City, Utah; Lucy was living in Philadelphia with her aunt and uncle; Ida’s two older sisters were “inmates” at the Bethesda Home in Springfield Township, Montgomery County, Pa, along with about 100 other children; and Ida was living as an “adopted daughter” in the home of one of her father’s relatives in Quakertown. Ida’s father married for a second time in 1912; Ida’s mother died in 1916 so apparently her parents divorced. In 1920, 13 year old Ida is living in Quakertown with her father, step-mother, sister, and two half siblings. Ida’s other sister is living with their grandparents, perhaps to help grandma with the household chores. By 1930 Ida is 23 years old and living in Quakertown with an attorney and his family, working as their servant. Ida joined the Gospel Worker Society about 1933. She worked mostly in the Editorial Department. Ida remained with the Gospel Workers for the rest of her life. She died 16 April 1990 and is buried with other Gospel Workers in the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.
