Ivy Luella Long, GW #147
Ivy was born on 10 March 1898 in Cumru Township, Berks County, Pa. to James M. and Valeria (Kohl) Long. She was baptized as an infant on 11 June 1898 in Trinity Lutheran Church circuit of Reading. On her Gospel Worker Society application she states she was baptized by immersion in 1910 (about 12 years old) by F M Hottel (Mennonite Brethren in Christ preacher). In the census of 1900, 1910, and 1920 Ivy is listed with her parents, first in Cumru then in Reading. In 1920 she was working as a looper in a hosiery mill with her sister. Soon after she joined the Gospel Worker Society. The date of her application is 11 April 1921. Somehow Ivy eluded the census taker for 1930, 1940, and 1950. When Ivy’s father died in 1954, she is listed with the survivors as “Miss Ivy Long of Pittsburgh.” Apparently, she was involved with the Pittsburgh ministry. Ivy died on 18 May 1977 and is buried in the Brooklyn Height Cemetery in Cleveland with other Gospel Workers.
