Jennie B. Caskie, GW #31

Jennie was born on 11 May 1876 in Walnutport to Scottish immigrant Robert Caskie and his wife Mary.  Jennie’s sister Mamie (Mary) also served as a Gospel Worker.  Jennie is listed twice in the 1900 census.  On June 2, Jennie is working with Gospel Worker Sarah G. Brunner in Jersey Shore, Pa.  On June 11, she is in nearby Williamsport with a bigger group of Gospel Workers.  In 1904 she is serving in the York, Pa. mission.  According to the Gospel Workers records at the Union Gospel Press in Cleveland, Ohio, Jennie was “terminated.”  At some point, Jennie married Ira Beatty of Warren County, Pennsylvania, eleven years her junior.  They had a daughter, Grace Dorothy, born 7 October of 1907 in Walnutport, Pa.  On Grace’s birth certificate, both Ira’s and Jennie’s occupation are listed as “Captain in the Salvation Army.”  Jennie divorced Ira on 12 June 1909 in Warren County, Pennsylvania.  Jennie married a second time, to a man named Albert Isaac Atkinson Turkington who was born in Northern Ireland.  Even though Jennie was born in the United States, she applied for citizenship, perhaps because her father was born in Scotland.  She states she was married on 2 October 1912 in Niagara Falls, NY.  On the marriage license application Jennie reports that her first marriage ended in divorce on 12 June 1909.  Jennie and Albert moved to Baltimore, Md. where he was a preacher.  They did some evangelistic meetings, including some in Reading, Pennsylvania, for the Grace and Hope Mission which was co-founded by Jennie’s sister Mamie.  Jennie died in Maryland on 29 February 1932 (death certificate E-77279).  Jennie’s husband married Emily Gray on 5 July 1935.
