Katie L. Foltz, GW #152
Katie was born on 4 July 1892 in Pennsylvania. Katie has mysterious parental origins but was raised by Daniel and Annie (Edwards) Nelson of Terre Hill, Lancaster County, Pa. It is possible that Annie is Katie’s mother since in the 1900 and 1910 census Katie is included in the count for how many children Annie had. In those two censuses, Katie is listed with the last name of Nelson. However, in 1920 she is listed as Katie Foltz, step daughter of head-of-house Daniel Nelson. At any rate, it appears that Daniel and Annie were the only parents that Katie knew. Katie’s sister, Minnie Nelson, was also a Gospel Worker. According to an article in a Gospel Worker publication, Katie accepted Jesus as savior when she was eight years old. Her sister Minnie entered the Gospel Workers before her. Katie took the train to Cleveland several times to visit her sister. What she observed appealed to her, apparently, for on 26 January 1923 Katie left her job as a knitter in a hosiery mill in Reading, Pa to join her sister in the Gospel Worker Society. Katie remained in the Gospel Worker Society for the rest of her life. Katie died on 18 October 1984 at the age of 92. She is buried in the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery with other Gospel Workers.
