Lillian May Musselman, GW #33
Lillian was born 12 May 1881 in Pennsylvania to Gospel Worker Society “founder” William B Musselman and his wife Mary Ann nee Oberholtzer. By 1900 Lillian had joined the Gospel Worker Society; she is in Lock Haven, Pa for the 1900 federal census with fellow Gospel Workers Rebecca Kuntz and Clara Fetterolf. Their occupations are reported as “Gospel Worker.” Lillian’s photo below is from a write up about the Gospel Workers in a 1903 issue of the Gospel Worker Society Herald. From 1902-1906 inclusive Lillian is listed in the Williamsport, Pa city directory as a missionary, living at the same address as her parents and other Gospel Workers. At some point, Lillian married a man with the last name of Ballard. I have not found a record of the marriage, nor have I found her location in 1910, 1920, or 1930. By 1940 Lillian is widowed and living in Bevery Shores, Porter County, Indiana working as a proof reader in a printing office. Interestingly, her widowed mother is living with her (why did she not stay in Cleveland?). Lillian died on 12 January 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio and is buried in the Brooklyn Heights cemetery with the other Gospel Workers. She has the Gospel Worker Society insignia on her tombstone even though she was not active in the organization for a time.
