Mabel Glenn Haldeman, GW #112
Mabel was born 19 August 1890 to John J. and Harriet (Kerstetter) Haldeman of Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pa. In the 1900 census we find Gospel Workers Emma Geissinger, Louise Musselman, Ada Smith, and Mary Snyder are stationed in Sunbury. By 1907, some Gospel Heralds are assigned to a congregation there. We assume Mabel was introduced to the ministry of the Gospel Workers through this contact. In the 1910 census, 19 years old Mabel is living with her parents and working as a weaver in a silk mill. In the 1912 Sunbury city directory, Mabel is working as a weaver. The June 14, 1952 issue of the Gospel Herald says she has been with the Gospel Workers for 38 years, which would make her start year about 1914. By 1920 she is living in Cleveland, Ohio with the main group of Gospel Workers, and again in 1930 and 1940. The same 1952 issue of the Gospel Herald reports that Mabel was actively engaged in city mission work in Cleveland but left that to fill a vacancy in the editorial department. As chairman of the Editorial Committee, she was constantly interested that proper interpretation of the Scriptures in the literature is brought before the public. Mabel was also a poet, a lot of it written to help children learn Bible truths. A collection of her work has been published as a book entitled Poetic Dewdrops for Children. Mabel died on 5 January 2000 at the age of 109. She is buried in Cleveland Heights with other Gospel Workers.
