Mary Ann Musselman, GW #26
Mary Ann was born 16 August 1861 to Tobias and Ann (Reiff) Oberholtzer of Hatfield, Pa. Mary Ann married William B. Musselman in 1880 or around there. She birthed ten children but only nine survived to adulthood. Their son Elvin, who may have been their youngest, was born in 1898 in Williamsport, Pa. In the 1900 census Mary Ann is listed as a Gospel Worker for her occupation. The Musselmans continued to live in Williamsport as the headquarters of the Gospel Worker Society until 1907 when they moved to Cleveland, Ohio. The family lived in the same domicile with the Gospel Workers. If they had their own apartment, I can’t tell from the census. In the 1910 census, Mary Ann and her husband report that they have been married 29 years and her occupation is listed as missionary for a Gospel Society. In 1920 her occupation is reported as housekeeper at a publishing company. In 1930 she is again listed as a missionary and she was 20 years old when she first married. Her husband died in 1938 and is buried in the Brooklyn Heights cemetery in Cleveland with some of the Gospel Workers. By 1940 she left Cleveland to live with her widowed daughter Lillian Ballard in Porter, Indiana. She reports in the 1940 census that in 1935 she lived in Cleveland. She does not have any occupation listed, she is 78 and widowed, and had 8 years of schooling. Mary Ann died in Indiana on 28 October 1946 and is buried next to her husband in the Brooklyn Heights cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.
