Mary Emma Stutzman, GW #52
Emma was born on 1 July 1887 in Locustdale, Schuylkill County, Pa. to John and Susanna (Stitzer) Stutzman. Emma was the youngest of eleven children. In 1900 the family was living in Whitehall, the upper district, not far from Northampton where the Mennonite Brethren in Christ had a congregation. Perhaps this is where Emma heard of the Gospel Workers. Sadly, her mother died when Emma was only 17 and her father died the following year. Her stint with the Gospel Workers was probably between those events for Emma married Harvey Price in July 1905, the same month her father died. Both Emma and Harvey were living in Ashland, Pa. at the time of their marriage. In 1908 the Prices were living in Easton where Harvey found work as a knitter. In 1910 and 1920 they were in Ashland; and in 1930 and 1940 they were in Wilson, near Easton, Pa. They had at least five children. In the 1910 census she indicated she had two children and one was living. Subsequent census returns and her obituary reveal she had three daughters: Muriel (a.k.a. Myrtle), Grace, and Ruth. A fifth child, a son, was still born in 1915. Emma died on 19 January 1947 and is buried in Easton Cemetery. Emma was a member of Calvary Methodist Church of Easton at the time of her death. Her husband died in 1955 and is buried next to her.
