Mary Estella Henry, GW #122

Mary “Mae” was born on 20 February 1882 to Walter and Hannah (Schwenk) Henry of Schuylkill County, Pa.  It appears she had a stable upbringing, spared of trauma.  Her father distinquished himself in the community as a businessman and local politician.  In 1900 the family lived in Porter Township and Mae worked at a shirt factory as an assistant forelady.  In 1910 the family lived in Tower City and Mae worked as an operator at a stocking factory.  Her mother died in 1911 when Mae was almost 30.  At some point before 1920 Mae joined the Gospel Worker Society.  The Gospel Workers had been active in Porter Township, so maybe that is where Mae became acquainted with the society.  In the 1940 census it is reported that Mae had nine years of schooling.  Her occupation listed in the 1950 census is seamstress for the missionary home.  It appears Mae stayed with the Gospel Workers until her death on 21 February 1962.  She is buried in the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery in Cleveland with other Gospel Workers.
