Mary Olive Curns, GW #55
Mary was born in December 1881 in Castanea, Clinton County, PA to Robert and Ella (Gunsallus) Curns. Sadly, Mary’s twin sister died the following year. In 1897, Mary’s father Robert became very ill. Her two younger siblings were enrolled in the soldier’s orphans school in Uniontown, Fayette County, PA. Mary was 16 and started working at the Pennsylvania Memorial Home for Soldiers and Widows in Brookville, Jefferson County, Pa. where she is listed in the 1900 census. At some point, she joined the Gospel Workers and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she died in 1907. She is buried with other Gospel Workers in the Hawthorne section of the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery.
