Maybelle M. Dukett, GW #128

Maybelle M. Dukett, GW #128

Maybelle was born 23 September 1897 in Toledo, Ohio to Albert and Margaret (Nickelson) Dukett.  Sadly, Maybelle’s mother died when Maybelle was only 5 years old.  Her father married again, giving Maybelle and her brother and sister a mother again.  By 1920 Maybelle had joined the Gospel Worker Society and is living in Cleveland with the rest of them, working in the publishing part of the ministry.  She is listed in the 1926 Cleveland city directory as a missionary with the Gospel Worker Society.  Apparently, life with the Gospel Workers wasn’t for Maybelle.  By 1930 she is living in Detroit, Michigan, renting a room with a family and working as a press operator for a drug company.  In 1939 Maybelle was the sponsor at the baptism of the daughter of former Gospel Worker Pauline (Parson) Stiffler’s daughter at Grace Episcopal Church in Jersey City, NJ.  Maybelle’s whereabouts for the 1940 census remains a mystery; however, on 14 November 1940 she married Walter C. Bell in Toledo, Ohio.  If they had any children, they died young; no children born to this union were mentioned in Walter’s obituary (d. 26 February 1967).  In 1954 Walter and Maybelle are listed in the Colorado Springs, CO, city directory.  Walter died in Mesa, Arizona., and is buried there.  At the time of his death, Walter was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Was Maybelle also a member?  Not known.  Maybelle died in June 1987 in Colorado Springs, CO., and is buried at Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum in that city.
