Rebecca L. Weiss, GW #38
Rebecca was born on 16 November 1874 to Samuel and Rebecca (Lewis) Weiss of Milford Township, Bucks County, Pa. She was raised in a Christian home but did not come to faith herself until she was in her early 20s. After only eight years of formal schooling, Rebecca had worked at dressmaking, then silk weaving in an Allentown factory. After coming to faith, she joined the Gospel Worker Society in April 1899. She participated in the missions at Williamsport, Lock Haven, Shamokin (where she was for the 1900 census), Sunbury, and other places. She made various mission trips with others throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, distributing Daily Food Calendars and Gospel Heralds. She also participated in missions in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Canton (Ohio) for twelve years. In advancing years she transferred to the publishing house, trying her hand in the bindery then with the linotype machine. She ended up in the sewing department (part of the binding process) for many years. Rebecca died on 14 April 1962 and is buried in the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery with other Gospel Workers. Her brother Henry was a missionary in Chile for many years and her sister Flora was a Gospel Worker for a few years.
