Ruth R. Jones, GW #118
Ruth was born on 24 December 1892 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to Harry F. and Mary E. (Frank) Jones. Ruth’s obituary in the Allentown “Morning Call” says her mother’s maiden name is Stonebach, but Ruth’s sister’s birth certificate says the mother’s maiden name is Frank; this information would have been supplied by her parents. In the 1900 and 1910 census Ruth is listed with her parents and siblings in Bethlehem. By 1920 Ruth had joined the Gospel Workers and is living in Cleveland with the main group. Ruth continued with the Gospel Workers long enough to be listed with them in the 1930 census. By 1940 Ruth had left the Gospel Workers and moved to Holly Hill, Volusia County, Florida. She reported that she had four years of high school and that she was working as an author, independent. Her roommate is Mabel Simpson, also a former Gospel Worker. By 1950 Ruth and Mabel moved across the state to St. Petersburg where she was working as a manager in a Bible Institute. A google search shows that in 1947 the St. Petersburg Bible Institute was started under the leadership of Dr. Charles M. Leaming. The school is now known as Florida Beacon College & Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida. It is a conservative, Full Gospel non-denominational school. Ruth died on 2 April 1980 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Bethlehem where her parents and other family members are buried.
