Ruth S. Williams, GW #151
Ruth was born on 30 June 1901 in Catasauqua, PA to Evan and Mary (Steele) Williams. The Williams family were prominent members of the Catasauqua Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church (later the Whitehall Bible Fellowship Church). According to an article in the 14 June 1952 issue of the Gospel Herald, Ruth accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior in 1910 when she was nine-years-old. In her teen years she worked as a machine hand in the corset works along with one of her sisters. In January of 1923 Ruth entered the Gospel Worker Society. She worked 15 years in public mission work in various cities. At the time of the article in the Gospel Herald she had worked “five years in headquarters, when physically able assisting in the sewing department, serving as Dorcas of old.” It sounds like she developed some physical problems; perhaps that is why she did not stay with the Gospel Workers. Ruth moved back to the Catasauqua area near her family. Ruth died on 30 April 1967 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery in West Catasauqua, Pa. The informant for her death certificate was her twin sister, Cora. Ruth’s occupation was listed as “missionary worker, retired.”
