Sadie C. Bredbenner, GW #40
Sadie was born Sarah Catharine Bredbenner on 28 January 1877 to Lewis and Mary Maranda (Woodring) Bredbenner of Beaver Township, Columbia County, Pa. Sadie was baptized as an infant on 11 Mary 1877 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hazelton, Luzerne County, Pa. Sadie entered the Gospel Worker Society on 16 October 1899. In 1900, Sadie was assigned to the Borough of Philipsburg, Centre County, Pa. with Gospel Worker Alice Eisenhart. Philipsburg is about halfway between Williamsport and Pittsburgh. In Williamsport she participated in the Society’s city mission work for five years, then served as the society’s nurse. In 1907 Sadie moved to Cleveland, Ohio with other Gospel Workers where she lived out the rest of her life. In Cleveland, she served as chief cook for 38 years. From the 1940 census we learn that Sadie had only nine years of schooling. Sadie died on 7 January 1955 and is buried in Brooklyn Heights Cemetery with other Gospel Workers.
