Sallie Emma Musselman, GW #43

Sallie Emma Musselman, GW #43

Sallie was born 3 November 1883 in Pennsylvania to Gospel Worker Society “founder” William B Musselman and his wife Mary Ann nee Oberholtzer.  In 1900 the Musselman family were living in Williamsport, Pa.  Sallie was the oldest child at home.  She has no occupation listed, but her mother was listed as a Gospel Worker even though there were many children at home including the youngest who was two years old.  In the 1902 Williamsport city directory Sallie is listed as a superintendant, telling us that she was a Gospel Worker by then.  In a 1903 issue of the Gospel Worker Society Herald, it is reported that Sallie is working in York, Pa. and is part of a quintette.  Sallie’s whereabouts in the 1920 census remain undiscovered.  Sadly, the 1930 and 1940 census record Sallie as an inmate in the Cleveland State Hospital for the mentally insane.  Sallie died on 14 June 1965 and is buried in the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery in Cleveland with other Gospel Workers and with her parents.
