List of the Doctrines and Disciplines through the Years
The Evangelical Mennonites of Pennsylvania was the first Mennonite Group in North America to publish a doctrinal and procedural statement in 1866. They entitled the document, Doctrine of Faith and Church Discipline of the Evangelical Mennonite Society of East Pennsylvania and was printed in 1867. This document is included in the book, What Mean These Stones, published by the Bible Fellowship Church.
Later publications were simply called Doctrines and Disciplines. The Doctrines were the expression of their biblical and theological positions. The Disciplines included lifestyle issues and directions for procedures in the organization of the church.
In 1879, the Evangelical Mennonites joined the United Mennonites to form the Evangelical United Mennonites. In 1880, they published their first Doctrines and Disciplines.
