Report of the

Ministerial Candidate Committee

            During the past year, the Ministerial Candidate Committee implemented new procedures for its examination and approval process. Men who apply for recognition with the Committee are given a preliminary interview by one of the members of the Committee after which he may be asked to complete the Open Book Examination. After the satisfactory completion of this exam, he will meet with the entire committee for a more thorough interview during which he will be tested orally on the Articles of Faith. Following a satisfactory interview and examination, the applicant or candidate is approved as a probationer eligible to receive a call. The Committee believes this new procedure will streamline the approval process and improve the Articles of Faith examination by allowing it to determine not only if a man knows the Articles but also if he is committed to them.

            Because of this new procedure, men can move from applicant status to probationer status quickly. For this reason, the number of men listed as candidates this year appears to be small while the number of applicants seems large.

            Jonathan Arnold resigned from the Committee as a result of beginning a new ministry. The Committee appointed Clyde D. Bomgardner, Jr. to serve until this Annual Conference. We are grateful to Brother Arnold for his service as a part of the Committee and to Brother Bomgardner for his willingness to assume this responsibility.

            Because proposals will be offered for new leadership structure at Annual Conference, the Ministerial Candidate Committee believes that it would be advantageous to merge its duties with those of the Committee on Credentials to form one committee to oversee the men who are serving in the BFC. We encourage the Steering Committee and new Executive Committee to consider this merger.

            An Orientation Seminar was held June 26-28, 2007. During the seminar, the men under the direction of the Ministerial Candidate Committee are given instruction in the doctrine and procedures of the BFC. Because men are given this orientation into the procedures we follow, an examination on the Principles of Order is no longer given. This year’s Orientation Seminar will be held at Coopersburg, PA, June 3-5, 2008.

            The Committee met nine times between May, 2007, and February, 2008.

            The following men were interviewed: Ronald C. Hagy, David J. Peters, Fred G. Zaspel, Joshua P. Miller, Robert B. Kramer, Shan D. Cleck, Carlos G. Rodriguez, Marcos G. Ramirez, Frank E. Lenahan, Mark R. Evans, Kurt P. Francis, and Ferdie R. Madara.

            The following men were approved as probationers eligible to receive a call: David J. Peters, Aaron J. Susek, Fred G. Zaspel, Joshua P. Miller, Carlos G. Rodriguez, Marcos G. Ramirez, Mark R. Evans and Kurt P. Francis.

            Colby A. Weinhofer was licensed.

            The following men were recommended to the Committee on Credentials for Ordination Examination: Thomas H. Morrison, Robert B.Kramer, Shan D. Cleck, and Ferdie R. Madara.

Physical Qualifications. The pastor must be a mature man who is physically and mentally fit, being free from impairments that would undermine his ability to minister. His physical and mental fitness should give promise that he will be able to bear the demands of the ministry.
