Report of the
Board of Communications
I have found the Book of the Law in the House of the Lord.
And when the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his clothes.
2 Chronicles 34:15b,19
What a shock it must have been to King Josiah when during the eighteenth year of his reign the Book of the Law was finally found and read in his presence for the first time. The priests found the Book when they were cleaning the Temple.
I find it hard to believe that the Israelites had any real commitment to God during the time when the book was closed and silent. The fact is that many had fallen into idolatry and were living lives unpleasing to God. But after the Book was discovered and read, revival took place. The Jews finally celebrated Passover.
The BFC is a Biblically-based denomination. This is one of the distinctives that sets us apart from other religious bodies. The Bible is our very life and breath. It is our only book and from it comes our creed.
The Board of Communication has been tasked to keep alive the BFC written material that surround the Bible as well as provide other materials and aids for our pastors and people. This includes the Faith & Order, Articles of Faith, BPLs, various report booklets, and church supplies. The website (BFC.org) fits under this as well. And so does the only denominationally-wide newsletter, Fellowship News. It is our goal to do the best we can in preparing and maintaining these things.
May our focus, however, always be on The Book—The Bible.
The Board of Communications would like to remind the BFC that one way of communication is via the Yahoo-Groups. If you are not involved with this, please contact either Scott Ott or Roy Hertzog.
Fellowship News, is about to celebrate its fiftieth year of publication. What began in a magazine format printed quarterly, typed with typewriters and subscriptions sold (no doubt replacing materials from the old Gospel Herald Society) is now printed in a convenient, bulletin-sized newsletter. It continues to be desirous of keeping the BFC informed and together. Celebrate with us this accomplishment and let us continue to make the Fellowship News viable and relevant by supplying articles, church updates and by distributing it liberally to congregants.
The Board maintains a supply of materials needed by our churches such as booklets, attendance cards and certificates. A CD contains last year’s Yearbook and the up-to-date Faith & Order. During the 127th Annual Conference please check-out the items found at our table. The BFC logo in various formats with instructions for usage is available at our website.
We thank those who have volunteered and assisted the Board of Communications this past year: Rachel Anderson (Business Manager), Carol Snyder (Editor), Scott Ott (Webservant) and Scott and Roy Hertzog for their work with the Yahoo-group. Thanks also to those who submitted articles for Fellowship News.
The Board is happy to announce that Rachel Anderson has agreed to another term as Business Manager for Fellowship News and the Board of Communications.
We are happy that vendors are willing to come to Annual Conference. Vendors make a donation to the Yearbook and are given an ad as an expression of thanks. Sponsors for the Fellowship News would be greatly appreciated and would help underwrite the cost of the publication.
