Report of Victory Valley Camp to BFC Conference: 1991

Report of the Board of Victory Valley

As the board characterizes this past year it would be one of God’s grace in the midst of difficulty. Our hearts have ached for Phil Atkins and his family in the midst of Jill’s illness. We as a board appreciate those who have come to the assistance of the Atkins family as well as to the ministry of Victory Valley Camp. Many individuals and churches corporately have given of themselves, their time, and their resources to enable Phil to care for his family this summer. Because of the efforts of many the camp has continued to function well. We want to express our very special appreciation to our Assistant Director, Donna Bauer, who shouldered a great many additional responsibilities this summer. She labored tirelessly, willingly, supportively, compassionately and effectively this past summer.

The grace of God can be seen in the wonderful year the camp experienced in spite of hardship. We were blessed with a quality summer staff. We had the privilege of ministering to a total of 594 campers. This is up from a total of 565 campers the previous summer. The Lord moved in the lives of many of the children as evidenced by the thirty-two campers who came to make a profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The grace of God can also be seen in the total ongoing work of the camp. Each year more improvements are being made in program and facilities. The camp is being refurbished. Cabins are being renovated. A new foundation has been placed under Ledge. Many of the bathrooms have been remodeled. Finances are still a struggle, but the Lord provides. Being mindful of the current recession and the difficulty many families are experiencing, we will not be raising our camp fee this year. We cordially request the churches to evaluate their giving to the camp each year. Any increase in support will be gratefully received and put to good use. Just a reminder that church contributions given in the winter months help the cash flow tremendously. Most of the camp income is generated in the summer months. We appreciate all those churches who can contribute earlier than the March deadline. A complete financial report supplements this report.

The board of Victory Valley Camp held three regularly scheduled business meetings during this year. In addition to the meetings of the full board, many additional hours were spent by individuals of the board in service on committees and in the fulfillment of other camp-related responsibilities. The board membership is divided into four standing committees: Program & Staff, Building & Grounds, Development, and Finance.
