Clement Jerome Edwards, GHS

Clement Jerome Edwards was born on 15 October 1879 in Hughsville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, to William and Mary (Barringer) Edwards. His father was not always in the home which may have led to it being said of him, “he was one of the worst.” He was converted in 1898 at age 18 in Muncy, Pennsylvania under the ministry of Gospel Worker Society women Rosa J Rote and Alice M Eisenhart. After his conversion his nickname was “sunshine.” Three years later he was recommended to the ministry by the Gospel Worker Society in Muncy, Pa.

Clement Edwards entered in Gospel Herald Society in 1901. He was stationed at Washington and Phillipsburg, NJ; later at Easton, PA, as a helper, then had charge of the Cementon, PA, mission as the leader. At one time he was the leader at the Trenton, NJ, mission. In 1905 he was in charge of the Norristown, PA, work. It was in Norristown that his second child was born in September of 1906. Sometime before that, Clement was married to Elizabeth Styers of New Jersey.

Soon after his stint in Norristown Clement left the Gospel Herald Society and connected with the Methodists. He remained in ministry as a pastor with the Methodist church for 36 years. He died in 1951 in Porter, Erie County, New York. He is buried in the Colins Center Cemetery in Erie County, New York.
