David J. Davis, GHS

David J. Davis, GHS

David J Davis was born in Wales on 23 July 1880 to John and Catherine (Reilly) Davis. David came to America with his parents in 1883 when he was just a toddler. David became a citizen of the United States in 1890 “by Father’s naturalization before registrant’s majority.” The family was living in Mahanoy City in Schuylkill County, PA in 1900 when the census was taken. David was working as a schoolteacher while his father found employment as a coal miner.

David came to faith in Jesus Christ at a Union Meeting in Newry, PA in August 1898. The Gospel Worker Society mission from Altoona recommended him for the ministry in May 1902. His time in the Gospel Herald Society must have been short. On 26 December 1907 he married Caroline M Reilly of Hollidaysburg. He reported his occupation as druggist. They were married at St. George M E Church in Philadelphia. The marriage was listed in the records of Bridesburg Methodist Church. At the time of their marriage, he was living in Altoona.

Altoona is where he spent the rest of his life. David and Caroline had one son, John. David continued working as a pharmacist in his own business.

David died on 16 July 1962 and is buried in Alto Reste Cemetery in Altoona.
