SEVENTH SEMI-ANNUAL CONFERENCE

November, 1862

Proceeding of the Evangelical Mennonite Conference

On Tuesday, November 4, the members of this Conference came together at the Meeting House in Haycock Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, for the semi-annual session.

It began in the morning with an open worship service. Brother E. Hershey spoke about I Corinthians 6:20: “For ye are bought with a price.” Brother William N. Shelly, Chairman of the last Conference, opened the meeting with singing, prayer and a short message. E. Hershey was elected to be Chairman, and A. W. Stauffer, Secretary of this Conference.

RESOLVED: That we be willing to develop a closer union with the brethren in Canada, and to ask them to consider this proposal during their next Conference, and that they send one or two delegates to our next Conference, so that this union can take place.

RESOLVED: That every preacher in our denomination shall have a certificate and laymen are also entitled to it if they so desire.

RESOLVED: That our next Conference shall be held in the Upper Milford Meeting House, in Upper Milford, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania on the first Tuesday in June, 1863.
