2008 Report of Youth

Report of the

Board of Youth & Young Adults

This year, the full board met four times to do its work. The board is a joy to be on because the members genuinely like one another and are willing to put up with the likes of me, the secretary. It may be oxymoronic, but this is a “Fun Board”.

The major effort for the board each year is Sno-Glo. This year, there were almost 1200 people (most of whom were not teens or young people, but students). This year, the first week was given over to combined (grades 7-12) the second to senior high students and the third to junior high students. Billy Dunn was the speaker. Danny Oertli was the worship leader. When one considers all those who played significant parts, perhaps there were one hundred others.

Each year we give out evaluations (something that makes board member Clyde Bomgardner’s heart overflow with joy) so that we can make Sno-Glo as spiritually effective as possible, and as much fun as we can. We pore over these to try to discover what will work the best and have the best everlasting results. This year’s evaluations were exceptionally good, but still we looked for ways to improve. Suggestions are treated seriously and often they are put into practice.

This year 37 people publicly indicated that they had put their trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord at the three Sno-Glo retreats. The Articles of Faith indicate three purposes that we are to strive for: worship, edification and evangelism. These are hard to balance in church life, and dealing with over a thousand adolescents and making that balance is certainly a challenge. But this is what we are called to do and you may be sure we are trying with all our hearts.

We cooperated with Pinebrook Bible Conference on a Young Adults Conference on February 15-17, 2008. This retreat attracted about 30 young adults. Pastor Steve Cornell, Millersville Bible Church, was the speaker and worship was led by Amy Courts. Our Young Adults Committee is going to put a strong effort on next year’s retreat. Also our Leadership Committee has been working with Pinebrook Bible Conference for a Youth Leaders Conference this spring.
