2011 Report of Ministerial Convention Committee

Report of the

Ministerial Convention Committee

The 2010 Ministerial Convention was a blessing to all who attended. We saw an increased number of attendees from 2009 to this year’s 2010 convention. Much of that increase of attendance may be attributed to the nationally recognized speaker, Mark Dever. It should also be noted, that Mark brought along with him 10 young men, who were part of his mentoring entourage. They mixed well with our pastors, youth workers and associates as they shared experiences, and engaged in profitable dialogue. Mark Dever spoke with authority on the local church and did a fine treatment of 1 Corinthians as a study of the local church with its ills and blessings. A committee thanks to the previous MCC for their foresight in scheduling Mark Dever for this convention. The Question and Answer time also was well received with some robust and challenging Questions and Answers. This personally interactive session kept us alert and engaged at a time in the afternoon where some of our men were looking for a corner to take a nap. The 2010 Convention was opened up by our Conference Executive Director, David T. Allen, leading in a biblical challenge and then into a communion service amongst our Fellowship of pastors.

We wish to express great thanks to our brothers who served on the previous committees for their foresight and laying a good foundation for the present committee to build upon for future conventions. Our prayer is that we see more and more of our brothers attend for training, fellowship and edification as we plan events for their benefit and the building-up of each local church to the glory and praise of God!

Committee member Mark Bickel fashioned a very good survey which laid the foundation for choosing upcoming speakers for the planning of future conferences. The results were insightful to reveal what was most important in the mind and thinking of the conference pastors and workers. Among the top returns for interest was some possible helps for sermon preparation, addressing worship styles and additional interest in moving to a more healthy church. The committee took these surveys into account and the conference speaker for the 2011 Minister’s Convention is Morris Proctor. Morris Proctor is the face of the Logos Software training. Morris served 25 years as a pastor when the Lord called him into training of this unique resource for pastors. The Lord laid upon his heart to develop manuals for sermon preparation using the software program.

To accommodate Morris’ speaking, training and traveling schedule we have requested of Conference that this year’s Minister’s Convention date be moved to Oct. 25-26th. An additional day attached to the two days will be offered to those interested in Logos training. Morris will provide a 1 day training of Logos Software known as Camp Logos. This training will be open to all pastors and church workers who sign up in advance for this training. The two days (Oct. 25-26) of Minister’s Convention, Morris will take us through sermon preparation as well as delivering some NT sermons out of Acts, modeling an expository sermon and leaving his messages open for evaluative criticism. Details for this year’s coming event will be displayed in video form at this year’s BFC Conference.
