Rose of Sharon Hymnal

Rose of Sharon Hymnal

In 1917, the Rose of Sharon Hymnal was published by the Mennonite Brethren in Christ of Pennsylvania. It contains over 700 hymns. The introductory note includes a thank you to the people who assisted the committee and allowed for the copyright of their works. The compiling committee consisted of: H.B. Musselman, W.G. Gehman, J.F. Barrall, C.H. Brunner, and E.N. Cassel. This hymnal was a common sight in each of our churches.

One of our historians, Andrew Geissinger, wrote a paper about our denomination’s early hymnody; a major section of his work is on the Rose of Sharon. The paper is entitled “The Hymnody of the Evangelical Mennonites of Pennsylvania and the Mennonite Brethren in Christ, Pennsylvania Conference.”
